This contrasted starkly with conventional controls, which required four hours to achieve similar results. The cannabinoids’ non-reactivity with other antifungal agents adds another layer of practicality to their use in treatment.

Further evaluations were conducted on 33 pathogens from various origins, with CBDV showing effectiveness against all nine tested strains of Cryptococcus. Despite this success, neither cannabinoid showed activity against the five Aspergillus species tested. Researchers explained that these cannabinoids function by disrupting biofilms, altering fungal cell structure, and affecting metabolic pathways and membrane integrity.

In Vivo Antifungal Efficacy

Using an insect model, the in vivo efficacy of CBD was measured, showing promising results in clearing fungal wounds. Infected larvae treated with CBD exhibited survival rates comparable to uninfected controls. This highlights the potential for cannabinoids like CBD and CBDV in creating viable treatment options for fungal infections in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals.

Dr. Dinh optimistically speculated on the future of topical CBD treatments for skin-associated fungal infections. This opens the door for cannabis enthusiasts and professionals to anticipate the integration of cannabinoids into everyday health solutions.
