Study Unveils Ongoing Labeling Issues in CBD Products
Recent research conducted by the University of Kentucky has highlighted significant discrepancies in the labeling of CBD products within the cannabis industry. This study meticulously examined 56 CBD gummy products available for purchase online, utilizing advanced liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) for testing. Alarmingly, it revealed that 70% of these products contained CBD levels that deviated more than 10% from the amounts stated on their packaging.
Furthermore, the investigation uncovered that 39% of the tested gummies also contained traces of delta-9 THC and delta-8 THC, despite the absence of such information on their labels. While the THC concentrations were not substantially high, their presence could potentially cause positive drug test results, posing a concern for unsuspecting consumers. This study underscores the urgent need for standardized CBD product regulation to safeguard consumer health, a sentiment echoed by the researchers involved.
Regulatory Void in US Hemp Industry Raises Concerns
